Five Years

It has already been five years since Ian Farrier passed away. Time flies. With him, his legacy also disappeared. The takeover of Farrier Marine by Daedalus has proven to be a farce. It seems that nothing has come of the continuation of Farrier Marine activities. No one is involved anymore. It’s very unfortunate and also embarrassing that the F-Boat brand has also died.

What remains are his superb boats that can be found worldwide in all waters. Many of whose owners have come together in the FCT group. A very active group of 5000 enthusiastic Farrier and Corsair owners where all the ins and outs of the Farrier designs are still discussed.

Fortunately, and fortunately that has remained, now without the much-missed predecessor. It is the only but so valuable source of information and knowledge. Check the archive with sections for photos and files, coming from both the official Farrier Marine website and from individual owners. You can find the home page with this link.

Ian Farrier maintained a great website during his lifetime where he shared joys and sorrows with his multihull sailors and other interested parties. Unfortunately, it has also disappeared and been replaced by a lackluster version by Daedalus, which can be found at this link. I suspect that this will eventually disappear as well.

The last version of the original Farrier website can also still be found in the Internet archives using the Way Back Machine. With this link, you can still open the December 2017 version of the great Farrier Marine website. I don’t know if it’s complete, but better something than nothing.

Ian Farrier, he is missed.

Time flies indeed, but I also miss the updates of your build! Hope you will soon find the energy and time to get your farrier sailing!

Wise words, Henny. The vacuum left behind Farrier Marine makes me very curious about how all of us Fboat builders and owners will treat the intellectual property Ian has left floating behind. Yes someone must legally own it, but common sense reality tells me it’s the actual users, the sailors, who will decide whether more Fboats get built, or perhaps evolved into new designs. I think it’s right for all or any of us to assist in the completion or repair of unfinished Fboats. Yes Mr. Farrier designed very successful boats. But he also provided the maps for completely novice boat builders to realize dreams out of raw composites materials. Some days I will sit (or sail along) on my big tri, truly amazed how Ian’s plans made this possible.
And I wish project Fram the time and resources needed to make 2023 a sailing-progress year!
